What beauty rule do you think is BS?

I think we’ve broken a lot of the rules, and that excites me. I’ve always joked about coloring outside of the lines, which was my inspo for our glam bag: doing things your way and not the way that society has conditioned us to think that we have to. Makeup is for everyone; it’s not gender exclusive. Makeup is not for a specific age. Like I said, it’s a form of expression, and I think the artist in me just knows we’re all entitled to that creative right to do what our heart desires. Creating that art on your face, there is nothing more badass than that. I like the idea of coloring outside of the lines; that’s a rule that should be broken all of the time.

Do you remember the first beauty product you ever used?

My mom had a liner that she would use on her lips and also on her eyes. I’m almost 100% sure these were liners bought at those little fashion boutique stores that sell tees for like a dollar, two dollars. It was a darker liner, and it was everything to me. I felt like I could conquer the world. I for sure did not know what I was doing, but that liner was the shit. And it’s funny because I look at our TresLúce gel pencil liners, and they’re actually formulated to be able to use all over the face. I’ve used them on my lips, I’ve used them to do graphic liners on my eyes, you can use them on the under water line. Because I remember that shit kind of burnt a little bit putting it on my eyes, which is so funny back in the day, it definitely was not supposed to be there. But now we make things the right way and we make them to have that versatility to use them as your heart desires.

Fill in the blank. I love my hair when ___.

I love my hair when it’s in it’s natural wavy state. I have a wave, curl pattern that I didn’t necessarily take care of, because I always thought that flatironing my hair was the way. We all go through that phase, right? My mom had really wavy, curly hair in high school, and my grandma didn’t, and so she didn’t teach my mom how to take care of her curls. So I wasn’t taught how to take care of my natural wave pattern. But actually, Julissa from Rizos Curls, we did a TresLúce collab video where she brings my natural hair into full fluff and full wave and it’s so cute. That’s my favorite way to wear my hair, especially when I have my days off. It’s nourishing. Give it all the good stuff.

I feel most beautiful when ____.

I feel most beautiful when I practice self-care. I think it’s what maybe society used to consider something very ugly, which is, like, crying. Being in that very vulnerable state for me is like practicing self-care, or doing things like silly face masks. Treating yourself to an at-home facial, bubble baths, reading a book. All of those things make me feel like I’m being good to myself, which is such a beautiful thing to experience. Especially as Latina women, we do so much for so many people around us that by the time I realize [it, I] am like, “What have I done for myself?” So I feel most beautiful when I practice self-care.
