Normani Loves Taking Herself Out on Dates

Normani’s relationship with beauty goes way back. From dance competitions to appearing on the X-Factor in Fifth Harmony, the singer has been in and out of glam chairs since she was 15. But if you ask about her most significant beauty memory, she’s quick to reminisce about childhood memories, sitting down for hours while her mom did her hair. 

This beauty ritual has given her a nostalgic soft spot for edge control. “I feel complete when I have my edges swooped,” she tells Glamour. “That was a big thing when I was young. When my mom would do my hair, I knew that it was done when my edges were being laid.”

To this day, the singer loves using edge control and has been a longtime fan of Tresemmé’s formulas, making her new partnership with the hair care brand a no-brainer. “I grew up using Tresemmé products, so to work with a brand that I have used and love is a dream,” she says. “The overall message of this campaign is something that I can really relate to. As I’m continuing to evolve and grow, I find it so important to surround myself with others who embrace me as an individual and can be on that journey.”

For another round of  Big Beauty Questions, Normani spoke to Glamour about the first makeup product she ever used, her new favorite lip gloss, and her obsession with laminated eyebrows.

Glamour: What’s one beauty trend you’re obsessed with right now?

I really love my eyebrows being laminated and just brushing them up.

What’s one beauty rule you think is B.S.?

Feeling like we have to conform for the sake of beauty standards. In terms of the fashion industry, we’re becoming more inclusive so everyone can feel celebrated and everyone feels like they have a voice in the space—and they’re often able to be themselves.

Fill in the blank: I love my hair when ______.

I take my braids down. I really love crimps, it kind of creates a natural crimp especially right now because I have these micro braids in, so it’ll be really wavy when I end up taking it down. I just really love my mane and my afro.

Do you remember the first beauty product you ever used?

NYX lip gloss because I didn’t really start using makeup until I started dance competitions and X-factor when I was 15.

You can only use three products for the rest of your life. What are they and why?

Definitely edge control, for sure. Lip gloss, I really like the Dior Lip Oil and the Rich Moisture Shampoo by Tresemme.

What is your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

I have my self-care Sundays. I’m a real introvert at heart and I’m around people most of the time so I don’t really have time to be myself, so I like those moments. I love to get dinner alone. I love getting massages, pilates, and anytime I have all my beauty stuff done.
