Can’t remember when the clocks go forward or back? Save yourself the missed appointments and make the Windows clock auto-update for you.

Daylight savings time (DST) is practiced in most of Europe, North America, and parts of Asia, South America, and Oceania. The process involves advancing the clocks by one hour during the warmer months and then reverting to Standard Time during the fall.

You can configure your Windows computer to automatically adjust the clock for daylight saving time. You can do this through the Settings app or the Control Panel. In this post, we’ll walk you through both of those methods in detail.

1. How to Adjust the Clock for Daylight Savings Time Using the Settings App

The Settings app is a hub for almost all Windows settings. You can use it to change your system’s date and time, update the time zone, and perform many other tasks. It also gives you the option to adjust the Windows clock for daylight saving time. Here’s how to access it.

To adjust the clock for daylight saving time on Windows 11:

  1. Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Use the left pane to navigate to the Time & languages tab.
  3. Click on Date & time.
  4. Enable the toggle next to Adjust for daylight saving time automatically.

The process for adjusting the clock for daylight saving time on Windows 10 isn’t all that different. Here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. Open the Start menu and click the gear-shaped icon to launch the Settings app.
  2. Click the Time & Language icon.
  3. Switch to the Date & Time tab using the left pane.
  4. Enable the toggle next to Adjust for daylight saving time automatically from the right side.

Once you complete the above steps, Windows will automatically adjust the clock for daylight saving time. Note that the toggle for Adjust for daylight saving time automatically may appear grayed out if you’ve enabled automatic time zone.

Further, if you like your date and time in a specific way, the Settings app also lets you change the date and time format on Windows.

2. How to Adjust the Clock for Daylight Saving Time via the Control Panel

Although the Settings app lets you manage system settings easily, many folks still prefer to use the good old Control Panel to make changes on Windows. If you belong to the latter category, here’s how you can use Control Panel to adjust the Windows clock for daylight saving time.

The following steps will work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers.

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type control in the box and press Enter. This will open the Control Panel window.
  3. Use the drop-down menu in the top right corner to change the view type to Large icons.
  4. Click on Date and Time.
  5. Click the Change time zone button.
  6. Tick the box that reads Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.

And that’s about it. Your Windows computer should now adjust the clock automatically for daylight saving time. If you want to disable this feature at any point, follow the same steps above and uncheck the Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time checkbox.

It’s Important to Get Your Windows Computer Clock Correct

Although having the wrong computer time may not seem like a big deal, it’s important to know that many Windows apps and services rely on your system’s date and time. If your Windows clock is set to an incorrect time, you may have trouble connecting to online services and apps. Enabling automatic daylight saving time adjustments should help ensure that Windows has the latest and most accurate time data.

If you rely on the Windows clock to keep up with your schedule, why not customize it to your liking?
