How to Remove In-Game Ads on iPhone and iPad Devices

There is nothing more annoying than nearing the end of a final boss battle only to be interrupted with a five-second long ad about something you don’t care about.

Unlike their console cousins, many mobile games are very cheap. In most cases, they are even free to download. Developers make up for this lost revenue with pesky in-game ads that immediately break any immersion you may have once had in the game.

In this guide, we will teach you how to outsmart in-game ads, so you can play games on your iPhone and iPad in peace.

Say Goodbye to In-Game Ads on iPhone and iPad

By turning off your phone’s internet connection, restricting internet access to particular apps, and installing ad blockers, you will be able to enjoy an immersive gaming experience with no interruptions.

These handy hacks will help remove in-game ads on iOS devices, but they might not help if you have an Android device. If you do have an Android device and are looking for a way to get rid of ads, we have a specific guide to removing pop-up ads on Android.

Turn Off Wi-Fi and Mobile Data

In-game ads aren’t actually built into the game itself, but rather rely on an internet connection to download and play advertisements. This leads us to the fastest and easiest solution to put a stop to in-game ads.

By turning off your Wi-Fi and mobile data, ads won’t be able to make their way into your game. Here’s how you can disable internet access on your iOS device:

  1. Access your device’s settings by hitting the gear icon.
  2. Select Wi-Fi, and flick the switch to the off position.
  3. Press back, and select your Mobile Data settings.
  4. Flick the Mobile Data switch off.

Alternatively, you can turn both your Wi-Fi and mobile data off by turning airplane mode on. You can find this above the Wi-Fi section in your general settings. This will also disable all incoming calls or texts.

Disable the Internet Access of a Specific Game

Turning your internet access off before playing a mobile game is great if you don’t want to be disturbed during your play session. But if you are expecting an important email and still require internet access, that method won’t work for you.

There is, however, a way to disable the internet access of a particular game. This way, your device will still be connected to the internet so you can receive important emails or phone calls, but the game will not have internet access and won’t be able to load any ads.

If this method sounds like a better option for you, follow the instructions below:

  1. Head to your device’s settings by pressing the gear icon.
  2. Turn off your device’s Wi-Fi connection.
  3. Press back and select Mobile Data.
  4. Scroll down to the list of apps and find the game you would like to restrict internet access to. Flick the switch to the off position.

Now your phone is still connected to your Mobile Data, but the game isn’t. So you can play your mobile game in peace without any ads popping up.

Download an Ad Blocker App

Restricting internet access to your phone or game is a good method if you are playing an offline game. Some games like MOBAs, however, require an internet connection in order to connect to players all over the world.

In this case, you will need to download an Ad Blocker app. Apps like AdGuard Pro block any ads from popping up while you’re using Safari. AdGuard Pro offers premium features for $9.99, one of which extends the ad blocker to all of your phone’s apps as well. This way, you don’t have to worry about changing your internet settings before every play session.

Ad blocker apps often cost money to block ads in your applications as well as your browser, so make sure you do your research before making any purchases.
