While some doubted whether Snapchat+ would be an attractive subscription offering, its new milestone seems to indicate that users are keen to try it.
If you were wondering whether anyone would pay for a Snapchat subscription, Snap Inc’s latest numbers point to a resounding yes. Along with some new features, the company announced its latest subscriber milestone.
Snapchat+ Attracts Over 1 Million Subscribers
In the six weeks following the launch of the Snapchat subscription plan, Snapchat+ has attracted over 1 million paying subscribers. The company made the announcement in a post on the Snap blog, where it outlined the expansion of availability and some additional features.
It seems that the cost and availability of Snapchat+ haven’t dissuaded throngs of users from trying it out. With a subscription fee of $3.99/month, Snapchat+ has a few unique features, including a Story Rewatch Indicator and the ability to see friends’ Ghost Trails on the Snap Map.
New features include Priority Story Replies, a Post View Emoji, new Bitmoji Backgrounds, and new app icons. Those who subscribe to the premium plan also get access to trial features that are being beta tested, as well as priority support. One of the most attractive features may be the Snapchat for Web feature which allows users to use the app in their web browser.
The plan is still only available in certain countries. At launch, Snapchat+ was available in nine countries. But this has since expanded to additional territories.
As of August 2022, Snapchat+ is available in 25 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, India, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Finland, and Austria.
As a result, Snapchat+’s subscribers are concentrated in Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Snap says it will add additional features in the coming months. Availability in additional regions is also likely.
Snapchat+ Is On the Rise
Despite limited availability and niche features, Snapchat+ has reached the 1 million subscriber milestone. Whether the subscription continues to attract new users and retain its existing ones will become clearer in the coming months.
