The crazed man who allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer at his San Francisco home and fractured his skull was moved from the hospital to county jail Monday, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

David DePape, 42, was arrested at the scene after breaking into the property of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi early Friday and searching for the politician, who was not home at the time.

He attacked her husband instead, police say, sending the 82-year-old to the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he remains.

DePape was also brought to the hospital following the attack, and was booked in absentia, according to local TV station KTVU.

He is expected to appear in court at 1:30 local time Tuesday and is currently being held in San Francisco County Jail.

DePape will be arriagned on the state charges he faces, which include attempted homicide, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse among others.

In addition, he has also been slapped with federal charges for attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to retaliate against a federal official by threatening or injuring a family member — which carry a combined sentence of up to 50 years if he is found guilty.

DePape’s alleged attack has raised alarms on the safety of lawmakers amid increasing threats and a hostile environment toward politicians.

In a rare public statement, Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger on Tuesday that more resources are needed to protect public servants.

“We believe today’s political climate calls for more resources to provide additional layers of physical security for Members of Congress,” Manger said in a statement, according to Politico.

The Capitol Police, based in Washington D.C. have been involved in the investigation into DePape’s alleged attack.

Rep. Pelosi is given around-the-clock security wherever she is, but her husband does not recieve the same when the couple is apart.

In an update on Paul’s condition, his wife’s office said he is “making steady progress” but faces a “long recovery process”. Following the attack, Paul underwent surgery for a skull fracture and had serious injuries to his right arm and hands sustained during the assault.

Police responding to the scene found the two men strugging over the hammer before DePape wrested it away from Paul and began hitting him with it before officers were able to intervene and stop him.
