A Hollywood restaurant owner is being hailed as a hero after he tackled and restrained a would-be robber who punched an elderly diner.

Shocking surveillance footage showed the assailant punch an elderly patron outside of Rafallo’s Pizza on Aug. 1. The ne’er do well, who looks to be in his twenties, then rifled through the victim’s pockets before taking off toward the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue.

Almost immediately, the attacker was pursued by Tim Ratcliff, owner of the neighboring restaurant Hollywood Shin. After taking a few punches himself, Ratcliff pinned the robber to the ground.

“He ruined my glasses. They’re destroyed,” said Ratcliff, who used “judo moves” to keep the thief on the ground for 10 minutes before law enforcement arrived.

During the altercation, both the victim and Ratcliff’s belongings spilled into the street, where they were retrieved by two women. One of the women also helped detain the man by kicking him and standing on his ankles.

The thief was eventually arrested.

The video quickly made the rounds on social media, where it earned kudos on Reddit, YouTube, and Instagram.

Commenters on Reddit’s r/AbruptChaos thread applauded Ratcliff for “sweet justice served.”

“It’s nice to know that people still care and take a stand,” said one user.

Instagrammers viewing the video on the Street People of Los Angeles page also praised Ratcliff and the woman’s teamwork.

“I like how homegirl kicks him and then stands on his leg. #teamwork,” a user identified as @occultjam noted.

Ratcliff said he wouldn’t hesitate to step in if something similar happened again.

“I would do it again,” he told KTLA. “I’m tired of things happening that shouldn’t happen, and the easiest thing I can say is there’s more of us than there are of them. If we team up, then it’s going to be fine.”
