The coffin bearing Queen Elizabeth II left Balmoral on Sunday morning and began a nine-day farewell journey to her final resting place in Windsor.

A hearse carrying Her Majesty’s body left the Scottish castle at 10 a.m. local time and was scheduled to drive slowly for more than 175 miles to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Her coffin was set to lie in the Throne Room at the Scottish royal manor before being taken St. Giles’ Cathedral Monday in a procession that includes newly ascended King Charles III.

Queen Elizabeth II will lie in rest at the cathedral for 24 hours and members of the public will be able to hold vigil at her coffin.

On Tuesday, the late queen’s only daughter Princess Anne is expected to escort her mother’s body to London via plane.

Elizabeth will be taken to Buckingham Palace where her coffin was scheduled to rest in Bow Room.
