Students at schools across Texas will wear maroon and white Tuesday in support of Uvalde — where classes will resume for the first time since the mass shooting in the community that left 19 children and two teachers dead last May.

“We want our friends and fellow educators in Uvalde to know we are thinking of them on their first day of school,” said Fort Worth Independent School District Interim Superintendent Karen Molinar, according to WFAA-TV. “And, that we will continue to support them throughout the 2022-23 school year.”

“In a show of support and solidarity, we’d like to encourage our students and staff to wear maroon and white on Tuesday, and to keep our friends in Uvalde in thoughts and prayers,” the Little Cypress-Mauriceville school district stated, according to KBMT-TV.

Dozens of other school systems voiced similar sentiments of solidarity with Uvalde, according to local reports.

The May 24 mass shooting inside Robb Elementary School rocked Uvalde to its core. Following the tragic violence, the rest of the school year, which only had two days left, was called off.

Texas students and staffers are encouraged to wear maroon and white to support Uvalde as the district starts a new year Tuesday.

The aftermath has focused intensely on the slow response time by law enforcement to stop the crazed gunman while he was inside the school.

The school year in Uvalde typically begins in August, but was pushed back to give the community more time to prepare for a new year, ABC News reported.

Some students have turned to private school while others are opting to learn virtually amid an anxious beginning following one of the worst school shootings in US history.

Meanwhile Robb Elementary School won’t ever be used to house students and teachers again, officials have said.
